Last night I FINALLY updated my LinkedIn profile. I’ve been wanting to do it for a while but something has been holding me back. That something was a mental barrier – a desired but difficult transition from old to new: A mix of absolute confidence in myself and my ability and then, at times, crippling self-doubt.
I am not the first new-business owner to experience this and I won’t be the last. I also won’t be the only one whose situation is made worse by a former employer – in my case bought about by an expected redundancy that, nearly 4 months on, still isn’t fully concluded.
The 3 months since I decided to go it alone, has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows with some twists, turns and both expected and unexpected let downs but last night, finally, it clicked in me that too much time was passing, that it’s too easy to find excuses not to do something when actually, you spend less energy just getting on with it.
I have an incredible opportunity in front of me: I have found a way to live by doing what I love. That’s not to say it will come easy or happen overnight but the opportunity is there, it’s mine for the taking and I now have a lot invested in making it the success I know it can be.
Streeem was my brainchild, conceived around 14 months ago and it’s taken me until now to find a combination of the technology, self-confidence and market-readiness to bring it to life. This website, as you see it today, is version 1.0. It will change, grow, adapt and reflect the nature of the business as we grow but, as a starting point, as a reference to say ‘this is me, this is what I’m doing now, I’m really pleased with it.
Live-streaming is still very much in it’s infancy as a business marketing tool: It’s one of the key reasons I perhaps couldn’t have done this 12 months ago, even if everything else was ready. But, as I’ve seen changes in business attitude to social media recently, as people are looking to find better ways to invest their advertising budgets (regardless of whether you’re a small independent shop on a high street, or a large multi-national), and as people begin to realise that live streams are the best and most cost-effective way to communicate on a totally personal level with a customer base, the demand for what I do will grow.
I’ve spent months refining my ‘product’ to make it affordable and accessible by businesses of all sizes. I’ve made it ultra-mobile so it can be taken literally anywhere in the world with a fraction of the kit you’d expect in normal videography, let alone a live broadcast setup…and I’ve done all of this while maintaining high-quality of the end-result.
